We spend time at Oak Woods Cemetery thinking about those who have passed away, learning more about the history of Chicago, and seeing nature that connects to these memories. We work to respect the privacy of those who are mourning as well as the ecology of the space. Each grave stone and tree planted in the ground marks time and change. People's voices and birds' calls and songs seem to come together in harmony. Birds are often thought of as connections to life, fertility, calamity and death. It is easy to see this watching them in a cemetery.
