3.25.23 Jackson Park and Bridgeport, Chicago, IL

This Cooper's hawk was seen near Guaranteed Rate Field Parking lot F in Bridgeport, IL. On April 9th, 2023, we went to lot F and found the wings and down feathers of a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on the bricks, so we think that this hawk might have left those wings, has a taste for woodpeckers, and was looking for some in this tree.

Common Goldeneye, while they can be found in most of the U.S., nest in boreal forests in Canada and Alaska.

Common Mergansers, like Common Goldeneye, nest in northern North America, so if you live there, you might see them with their fuzzy chicks in shallow waters of rocks.
