5.14.23 Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, IL

We have recently spent some time at Oak Woods Cemetery thinking about those who have passed away, learning more about the history of Chicago, and seeing nature that connects to these memories. Each grave marker and tree planted in the ground marks time and change. People's voices and birds' calls and songs seem to come together in harmony.

American Redstart

American Redstarts use their bright colors and butterfly-like tails to scare bugs to eat them.

While there are other Redstarts, they aren't closely related to each other, and are called the same thing because they use the same tactic for foraging; "starting" the bugs with red, orange, or yellow.

Eastern Kingbirds are territorial, and will chase Crows, Red-tailed Hawks, and  out of their territory.
