Our next stop was the Visitor Center, to meet Gabe's mom and sister. We knew the Center would be closed (even without the storm), but there is good birding to be had nearby. The storm damage made most of the roads unpassable for a car. We would have loved to have driven around the park. There is an extensive road system. We will just have to come back again! Just behind the Visitor Center are hummingbird feeders and Anne, Ima, and Ari walked into a SWARM of ruby-throated hummingbirds. We've NEVER seen so many hummingbirds and once and so close. They would buzz past your head and hover a foot away. It was a wonderful experience to be able to share with Gabe's mom and sister, who we've missed a lot.
