10.--.23, continuing, Long-eared Owl, Chicago area, IL

Today we saw a Long-eared Owl. This is a declining species of owl. Owls are generally sensitive and should be respected at a distance like most birds of prey and wild animals. We learned much from a birder today (Many thanks T) about how many non-birders seek out owls and get too close with phones to take pictures then post their location. Before this,  we had wondered why so many Birders post vague or no information online regarding owl locations. We tried not to disturb this wonderful creature and it only woke up briefly before going back to sleep.
