11.8.23 Muirhead Springs Forest Preserve, Hampshire, IL

My family and I saw a eBird report of a Tundra Swan, a species we had not seen before, so we decided to try and see it at Muirhead Springs. When we got there, my dad talked to someone who said that they didn't see it, but also didn't walk all the way around, so we walked the whole length. And we saw it! It was a juvenile, and it tipped over many times with their butt in the air, and even made some silly noises! After a while, while we were eating lunch and watching it, the young swan swam to a small island so they could groom, then flew to another part of the ponds. Later, I walked down a path with my dad while mom and my little brother Ari rested. At the end of the path was another access point to a pond, and there were Sandhill Cranes there! That was definitely a happy surprise. We saw lots of ducks and had lots of fun!
