Although we were unable to join the Chicago Ornithological Society's Whip-Poor-Walk, Edward Warden was kind enough to tell us how and where to experience the Whip-Poor-Wills. My father and I got there before sunset, when we saw a Lark Sparrow on a power line and heard a Northern Bobwhite. After it got dark, we started hearing Whip-Poor-Wills. We think we heard about 7 or 8 of them calling! As we watched the strawberry moon rise, we heard a Barred Owl calling with the Whip-poor-wills! This wasn't an easy trip for us. It was far away and we left home at 6:30pm and got back 11:30pm!
