Mute Swan parents and their five cygnets (young swans)

Mute Swan cygnets can have two different plumages. "Royal" cygnets hatch with gray fluff and grow gray-brown feathers as they become older. "Polish" cygnets have white fluff and feathers, though both color morphs get white feathers as adults.

When these cygnets grow up, the only way to tell if they had a "royal" or "polish" plumage when they were young would be to see their feet! "Polish" morphs can have pink or gray legs and feet, while "royal" have black legs and feet.
