From 10.29.24-11.6.24 my father, brother and I drove from Chicago to San Diego and back. This is part of Day 4.
This is what we saw this day: around 3 Red-tailed Hawks, Northern Harriers, a Darkling Beetle, Say's and Black Phoebes, a Least Bittern flying, Verdin, American Avocets, Gambel's Quail, Abert's Towhee, Anna's and Costa's Hummingbirds, a Western Meadowlark, Great-tailed Grackles, Snowy Egrets, Greater Roadrunners, Phainopepla, Northern Mockingbirds, a Great Blue Heron on a lamp post, and Black-tailed Gnatcatchers
Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve was suggested to us by a friend of ours, and it was amazing! We spent a while there and saw so much. Greater Roadrunners running right up to us, territorial hummingbirds calling and chasing others away, lots of Gambel's Quail walking around, and Snowy Egrets wading in the shallows with American Avocets are just some of the cool things we saw here! Henderson Preserve is a literal oasis, so lots and lots of birds here. Next time we're in the area, we're definitely coming back!
