Great Blue Heron and Great Egret below a Black-crowned Night Heron model. For more information: link to facebook "There were some unusual "birds" at Jackson Park yesterday. The Black-crowned Night-Heron Project has placed heron and egret decoys on one of the islands in the east lagoon. There are not only Black-crowned Night Heron decoys, but also egret and Great Blue Heron decoys, though the decoys of both have black bills like some strange hybrids! They also have a sound system with heron noises, though they didn't have it on when I was there. The goal seems to be to establish a 2nd night-heron colony in the park. Right now the only colony is in Lincoln Park." |
